The Homekeeper’s Journal is a way to keep track of your thoughts, in journal form, online. I have given you the prompts, written my own responses, and given you a Mclinky to use to leave the link to your own Journal entry. A link back here is nice but not required. Its also a great way to get traffic moving to your blog and share your thoughts with others.
I’ll post every week, usually on a Monday, and you can join me any time during the week.
Today’s Journal is all about Winter and what you do to make your home warm, inviting, comfortable and the things you struggle with in the Winter.
In my Winter Kitchen…
There are beans simmering, bread rising and orange tea brewing. All those warm, rich fragrances make the house seem warmer than it really is.
The hardest part about Winter for my household is ….
Keeping it warm. We have central heat but part of the house never gets warm. We use kerosene sometimes and I like that warmth. When the children were little the hardest part was being here day after day with little children and no way to get out to do things around town like go to the library. We are mobile now and are able to take lots of little trips away so we don’t get cabin fever!
My favorite Winter time meal is….
A hot bowl of stew (any kind really) cornbread and a cinnamony dessert.
I Do/Do Not (choose one) tend to be depressed in the Winter…..
I do tend to be depressed in the Winter and I believe its because of the lack of sunlight. So I open up our curtains and get outside as much as possible in the Winter.
A favorite Winter time activity my family enjoys is ….
Just popping corn and watching TV together. We don’t usually get snow but when we do, we get out in it. Another fav is game night! We play games a lot in the Winter, and put together puzzles too.
To help my home look and feel inviting in the Winter….
I usually make sure there are candles lit, afghans and quilts folded on chairs, rugs on the floors, something good cooking. If you want a delicious fragrance in your house without cooking, just sprinkle some cinnamon on a baking sheet, pop it in a 250* oven and let it bake a while….
How I dress to stay warm ……
I am a dresses mostly person so staying warm can be a challenge. I wear silk long johns, socks, a slip and a skirt. Under my shirt I wear a cami usually and I stay very warm. Dressing in layers works for me!
One really important health rule for the Winter time I’d like to share ….
OK, I have two. #1 is to put something like Rosebud salve on your little ones’ cheeks before they go to play in the snow. It will keep them from chapping.
#2 is for mommy to drink plenty of water in the Winter time. You can get dehydrated in the Winter as easily as in the Summer and lots of water can help your skin not to get so dry.
Now its your turn!
