What’s happening in my home?….

In my kitchen… baking mostly, some special meals, but in general I am cooking less than I usually do. I am not sure why, I guess I figure if anyone wants something specific, they will let me know! I’ve got my Christmas Eve menu done. We’re having a baked ham, mashed potatoes, yeast rolls, roasted asparagus, salad, amaretto peaches and pecan pie.

With our marriage… we’re working together to spend our money wisely, to give where God directs and to be good stewards of what God has entrusted to us. We’re talking about taking an anniversary trip this year, it will be our 30th anniversary. I had thought we might go in the Fall since that is when we got married but I think my husband may like to go sooner. It all depends on when we have our money saved up I guess. I will tell you where we’re going later.

With the children… well, its Christmas! They are excited. The season is just exciting. We don’t give a ton of gifts to each child.  And we have a budget we stick to. But there is just a beauty about the season that makes excitement contagious and all three of my children who are still at home have caught it.  They are enjoying the shopping trips, even to the grocery. They are getting into getting a gift for the brother or sister whose name they drew at Thanksgiving.  They will exchange those gifts Christmas Eve.

Around the homestead… its so cold and frozen outside, I don’t know how anything could be alive, but I see green in my garden. That lettuce is no good but it still hangs on to its beautiful color. My houseplants are doing exceptionally well. The house is usually so dry that they don’t do well, but this year I think I’ve found a good spot for them. The Christmas cactus bloomed and was so pretty for a few days. I hope the anthurium will bloom next. I have two poinsettias that are big and beautiful, I hope they hang on for a few more weeks, too.

In my “Inner Man”…. this has really been a season. What I mean is, its been hard. And I don’t think its over yet. Growing older, physical struggles, emotional roller-coasters, adult children, young children, ministry issues … all add to the fun. I sort of feel like if I could see through the fog and the forest, I might actually see what God is saying to me. But I have a feeling too, that God is teaching me and growing me even though I am not fully aware of it. So I hang on to Him, keep reading the Word, keep praying, hoping, trusting, believing, taking one step at a time as I can see Him leading.

What is your Inner Man? In 2 Corinthians 4 Paul gives us a clue about what he means when he says “the inner man”. In that scripture he says that “our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (4:16 KJV). So for Christians even though there is something about us that is getting old, decaying and deteriorating and dying..there is also something about us that is growing, becoming more alive, richer and stronger every day we live and follow Christ. That is what Paul calls our “inner man.”
