Day 1 of Week 5 – The Master Bedroom

Its the last week of the 5 Weeks To a Clean And Organized Home. Today we begin to de-clutter, organize and clean the Master Bedroom. You can always clean another bedroom if you don’t need to work in the Master Bedroom.

The main bedroom is often the only place to find any “alone” time.
However, the bedroom is often the first place to be used as a “dumping ground”. It’s not uncommon to find laundry that needs to be put away, books that need to be shelved, craft projects, etc.  All that clutter isn’t conducive to attaining a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

The guest room is another place that often catches the clutter. Try not to start the habit of using your guest room as a storage room with boxes of stuff everywhere and clothes thrown across the bed. It should look as tidy and homey as the other bedrooms. You want it to make guests feel welcome and comfortable and have that room ready for guests at a moment’s notice.

We’re going to start today by doing a major de-cluttering. So go find yourself some baskets, boxes or bags and label them, “Throw Away”, “Give Away” , “Keep” and “Store”.

Begin with bedside tables, dressers and other storage cabinets. Take everything out/off and go through it all designating it to one of your boxes. Sort and organize before replacing items you’ve decided to keep. If you keep any medicines in your bedside table you may want to consider child-proofing the drawers/doors. Are their items in your dresser that should be hung instead of folded? Go ahead and hang them up. Take this opportunity to clean out that dresser and get rid of clothing that doesn’t fit or that is not repairable.

Next The Big Picture….
Get everything off the floor, off the bed, off the chairs, off the floor and get everything that doesn’t belong in there, out of there! Put away the clean laundry, get the dirty laundry to the laundry room and then go through all your nic nacs and get rid of some of them. Clean the rest.

Take pictures and mirrors off the walls in preparation for the major cleaning that will come later in the week.

That’s all for today. We have a whole week to clean this room and we don’t need to over-do it today. The main thing today is to get the room cleaned out, the closets cleaned out and the storage areas cleaned out… except for the closets, we’ll do that tomorrow.

The Master Bedroom, any bedroom that is lived in for that matter, is a big job. So if you will take it a little at a time, you’ll get it all done and you won’t feel like you’re done in when we’re finished!

Pu-leeze tell me that you know the color & brand of paint on the walls in your picture? I am looking for some inspiration for our guest bedroom and that color looks beautiful! Any chance you know and can share?

I Know!! I love that color, too. Was thinking of trying to find it for my own bedroom. It is a Country Living photo and the only info I can find on the color is that it is a “soft green”.
