Day 2 ~ Kitchen

Today is day two of week 1. We’re still in the kitchen and today the main task is to clean under the appliances and clean the floors.ย  It may seem strange to clean floors before you get the entire kitchen clean, but what I am talking about today is cleaning all those cracks and crevices so that at the end of the week all you will need to do is to give the floor a cursory swoosh and it will be clean!ย

The picture to the right shows a special tool that cleans out from under appliances.

You probably don’t have one of those, I don’t, so we will need to clean out from under those appliances in a different way. Don’t hurt yourself today! I have a big strong 14 year old boy here, so I will use his muscles and my own to move the frig and clean under it. I can move the stove myself.

Once I have the frig moved, I will sweep and then mop. I will be sure to get the corner clean and the baseboards behind the frig.ย  Oh, and don’t forget the wall. The walls behind an appliance can get dusty and sometimes greasy.

When I get all the appliances taken care of, I will move on to the floor.

Steps to Cleaning The Floor:

  1. Move everything off the floor that you can
  2. Sweep well
  3. Run a dust mop over the floor if you can
  4. Mix up your cleaning solution or use whatever you use to clean the floor

What kind of floor do you have and what do you use to clean it?ย  I have laminate in the kitchen and I use a mild detergent. Its very easy to take care of, easier than any other floor surface I’ve ever owned.

Once you get all your appliances cleaned under and the floor done, you can leave a link here at my Mcklinky!

Post a comment to let us know here you are and how you’re doing!

Let’s just say THANK GOD for Sylvia and this challenge because honestly, I don’t think I had pulled the stove out to clean EVER since we moved into this house (hmmm…8 years)! Needless to say, the appliances are gleaming, and the floors, walls and baseboards behind all of the appliances are so clean you could eat off them!

    • Sylvia says:

I am so glad, Nicole! You know I said that to my family a few times, about he floors being so clean…. no one has taken me up on it though. ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Michelle says:

I did clean out one of the ovens. The other one is fine. I didn’t get to the floors, so that is added on to todays job. Thank the good Lord I have three girls to help out. ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Melanie says:

We are in the military and just got moved to a new house, so it wasn’t bad at all. ๐Ÿ˜‰
We have laminate floor in the kitchen and I actually mop with dish soap and hot water. It’s frugal and I use a natural soap.

  4. Som says:

I cleaned under the oven and fridge Monday! Clean the insides and tops of my cabinets today! Also cleaned my windowsill and reorganized my counters and sterilzed my cutting boards!

Also I steamed-moped the floors. Chemical-free and removes dirt and stuck on grime effortlessly

  5. Better late than never… finally got started on the floors around 4 pm! But now it is done, and I am happy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Sylvia says:

WooHoo! Everyone is so busy! Glad you’re all finding the 5 Weeks plan to be helpful.

  7. Jen S says:

Okay, today I have accomplished the following:

    ~thrown out all expired food
~clean and throw out all the stuff from the junk drawers
~cleaned off the top of the fridge and only put the first aid kit and the reusable grocery bags up there
~purged all the kids’ old cups and tossed them
    ~cleaned out under the sink
~cleaned out all the baskets on the counter
~gathered all the loose change and put them in a container(the week we go on vacation, I’ll cash it all in for gas money)
    ~swiffered all the cabinets
~dustbusted the floor and the air vents

  8. Sylvia says:

Its looking good here, too. Tomorrow will be the hard day for me…. cabinets and storage areas get me down. :op

  9. Donna says:

Refrigerator and stove done. Freezer was done last month. Floor today. It feels good to get things done and ready for spring. :o)

  10. Jennifer says:

Ok, I bit the bullet and pulled the stove out to clean! One word- NAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I don’t think the people before us has ever cleaned back there. At one time there was a mouse so we had that mess to clean up back that. We used the shop vac, and it is all spic and span. The floors and baseboards are also done so now I am treating us for a nice lunch while running errands and grocery shopping. I had cleaned under the fridge not long ago so that wasn’t bad.

  11. Cecily says:

Ok, so did you see my red-headed monkey throw her smooshed banana on the floor this morning?? Or were you watching when the other two spilled drinks, or playdough……oh wait, you were watching me cook and saw that stuff spill in the 3″ gaps we have between both sides of the stove and the counters…..(the old owners stove was 36″ ours, isn’t…) I knew you’d been watching me, but I didn’t have proof until now….Wonder if I can get all that done and the rest of the house picked up in less than an hour which is how much time I have before the Parents As Teachers gal comes to play with the girls…. Oh well, better get off here and try. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Kim says:

I’m playing a little catch up from yesterday. I’ve got the fridge cleaned and I’m now working on the oven. Floors are next! Woo! Hoo! LOL!
I gave a little shout out on my blog today to see if anyone else wanted to “play” along.
