Hi Marg,
You're right, it does get complicated when your significant other doesn't get on board!
My husband is the same way, he likes his stuff and we really don't have room in our small house to keep a lot of stuff. He is resistant to storing his stuff too, he likes it out where he can see it.
So I have worked out a way to have my house clean and uncluttered for the most part by asking him to keep his stuff in one room. Of course that one room is our bedroom, so its crowded in there! He has also allowed me to store some of his things that he doesn't use frequently in the attic. I store them in plastic crates with lids, well labeled so he can find what he is looking for easily.
I also have to be his reminder to put away his things so that they don't get lost, especially tools, and so that they don't lie about the house.
What it has taken for us is just give and take and working together.

Excellent post, such a good reminder. Thank you for that.
I'm more than happy to part with a lot of things, it's nice when the household is onboard, but what do you do when your husband likes to hold onto things? It gets a little more complicated.
