What’s happening in my home?….

In my kitchen… Not much. I have been sick since Friday last week. The kitchen has been run by the children this week, and Dad sometimes. They have been preparing simple, fast meals and doing a good job of it.

With our marriage… going strong … I am seeing an area where I may be able to help my husband in ministry, so I am praying that God will show me what to do about it.

With the children… some of the children are sick some are waiting around for college classes to begin and some are working. Everyone is sort of hunkered down because of the cold and not real interested in anything except sleeping and staying warm. We continue with school lessons even though I am sick. They take turns sitting on my bed and going over lessons. My husband takes up where I leave off when he gets home. We’re getting by.

Around the homestead… cold but not intolerable. The house is staying warm in parts and cool in others. We’re out of kerosene so I will ask DH to refill the tank when he gets home in case the house cools down too much today.

In my “Inner Man”…. listening, trying to “BE” … trying to discern … hopeful …thankful.

What is your Inner Man? In 2 Corinthians 4 Paul gives us a clue about what he means when he says “the inner man”. In that scripture he says that “our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day” (4:16 KJV). So for Christians even though there is something about us that is getting old, decaying and deteriorating and dying..there is also something about us that is growing, becoming more alive, richer and stronger every day we live and follow Christ. That is what Paul calls our “inner man.”

Its your turn now. What is happening in YOUR home? You can add your link to Mr Linky and let us know. A post here would also be very welcome so that I know you are following along. If you don’t have a blog you can make your post on your Face Book or just post and make your entry here

    What’s happening in my home?….

In my kitchen…I just finished washing some dishes by hand, still need to tackle the dreaded stove top…it’s rather sad at the moment. The floor needs to be swept and mopped. Going to put on two whole chickens and let them cook all day, save the meat for future meals, and return the chicken stock to the stove and let it cook all night. Makes wonderful homemade chicken soups!!

With our marriage…not married. Never been married actually. But I do stay vigilant in my prayers for a Godly husband!

With the children…I’m a single Mom of one 5 year old boy. His name is Gaelan. My Mom homeschools him for me and he’s doing fabulous right now! They started reading this year and I can’t get over how well he’s grasped the whole concept!! Aside from his academics, he’s a little head strong boy who took after me big time! But he’s my miracle child and I love him dearly!

Around the homestead…It’s chilly here, 32 degrees. We live in AL and yeah that’s chilly, but I wish it were colder. Sun is out, melting the last remnants of snow. Since I don’t work outside the home I try my hardest to maintain the home for my Mom since she doesn’t have the physical strength to do like she use to. It’s difficult for me at times because I don’t even like doing it! What I usually do is turn off the t.v. turn on my boom box and listen to the BBN station. Hours and hours of old hymns, wonderful sermons, and it’s refreshing to a tired spirit.

In my “Inner Man”…I loved this section of the journal entry the most! I had never really thought about it before. My New Year’s Resolution this year isn’t about my weight-loss journey(although I’m still working on it) but it’s more about growing closer to God and becoming the Proverbs 31 Woman. I’ve started reading my bible every morning now before I do anything else. Taking notes when I don’t understand something and using Matthew Henry’s commentary when needed. But above all, praying without ceasing, listening to the Shepherd’s call, and being ever so thankful that I have a Savior who gave His life for me. God is so good and every day is a blessing!!

I don’t have a blog to link to, and that’s part of what’s in my thoughts. You have that motto: A God to serve; A Family to Love; A Work to do. My God is there, and strong, and always has been; my family is strong and getting independent — my youngest started in public high school this year, so I’m ‘done with’ homeschooling, and my older children are doing fantastic in all their endeavors — additionally my marriage is as strong as it has been in quite a while. But that last part. . . for a while I thought that just cleaning and organizing my new house (we actually haven’t even closed on it yet, but the owner let us move in and rent until all the loose ends are tied up to buy it. . . ) and cooking, and getting into the PTO at my son’s new high school would be ‘enough.’ It’s really not. And then I thought it’s a matter of waiting on the Lord to drop something into my lap as to a work, whether it be a job or a volunteer opportunity. Ummmmm, I guess I’ve never been the best at patience, but it’s been several months, and I haven’t even gotten a hint. I have to start actively looking, I guess. I’ve asked around at church, and was mainly met with incredulous stares, “You want MORE to do?” I have medical training, so I’ve asked around the local hospital, and got a grunt of acknowledgement at the volunteer desk and a wave toward a sign-up sheet. Nothing inspiring at all. So, I guess my job now is to look for a job. Prayers, please. And thanks for being there.

    Hi Sylvia!
Looks like I’m a day late again. One of these times I’ll get it right.
I enjoyed reading your contributions Amanda and Laura. Now I’m off to visit the others through the linky.

Its OK Millie. I leave it about a week so that one just flows into the next. That way the busiest of us can still participate when we get a minute.

Laura, what about working in a Nursing Home? I have heard of families volunteering together for community service. Either helping out in downtown missions, maybe sorting the donations of a clothing closet, or donations of a food closet. Not only is that something for you to do and help organize but it’s a wonderful way of getting your kids involved. When I was a teen I enjoyed volunteering in nursing homes. Spending time with the elder of our city is an amazing experience. Often times they don’t get to see their own family if at all. So sitting with them while they share their memories, or you read to them, listen to some of their favorite songs….those things brighten their day and enhance your life at the same time! I’m hoping that once my son is old enough I can do the same with him. But right now all he can think about it is bugs, farm animals, and getting dirty! Which is all good too :)
Definitely be keeping you in my prayers Laura!

    Laura,
I am a Manager of Volunteer Services for a Hospice provider in Georgia. Hospices are always looking for people to volunteer. Volunteers serve mainly as companions to patients and sometimes family members. And remember, Hospice goes anywhere a patient calls home so sometimes volunteers are also needed out at someone’s home and if you live in a rural area, this can be quite convenient as well as satisfying for both you and the patient you serve. Good Luck and God Bless
