Cook Quinoa In A Rice Cooker

Cooked quinoa….. in the rice cooker!

I figured that since quinoa takes 20 minutes to cook, and so does white rice… and my machine has a 20 minute cycle, it might work. Also considered, the fact that quinoa, like rice, is usually cooked in a 2:1 ratio with liquids.

So  I cooked quinoa in the rice cooker and it worked wonderfully! I will do this all the time. Go ahead and click on the pictures to enlarge them…. quinoa is really neat looking….

Here is the 1 1/2 cups rinsed quinoa in the cooker with 3 cups water and a splash of olive oil.
You can use chicken broth or water among other liquids to cook the quinoa in and you can add your seasonings and herbs at this point too if you desire. I just used oil, salt and water.

    Hey Sylvia,
Neat cooking tip ! I like your website. If you don’t mind me asking what Church do you and Mark attend? I still attend Bible Baptist. Take care and may God Bless.

Hey Bobby, I’m so glad you came by!
Mark and I attend Pardue FWB Church on Memorial Drive. Same Church I’ve been with since about ’62! I’m the Worship Leader there.
You must know my neighbor, Mrs. White. She has gone to BB for many years.

When you cook quia, and t.v.p. do you rice cooker cup, or american standered cup ??

    • Sylvia says:

      Shirley,
I use an American standard cup when I cook quinoa in the rice cooker, but like rice, quinoa needs twice the amount of water as grain. So any cup will do as long as it is a 1:1 ratio of water to grain. Hope that helps!
