The Homekeeper’s Journal ~ 4/12/11

Today’s Homekeeper’s Journal is all about disappointment.

The Homekeeper’s Journal is a way to keep track of your thoughts, in journal form, online. I have given you the prompts, written my own responses, and given you a Mclinky to use to leave the link to your own Journal entry. A link back here is nice. Its also a great way to get traffic moving to your blog and share your thoughts with others.

Disappointment. The thing we don’t want and we don’t want our children to experience. But then again, we do want our children to experience it so that they can learn and grow. Disappointment is something that we just wish wasn’t part of life, but it always will be.

My biggest kitchen disappointment ……… was the chestnut fiasco. I baked chestnuts without first cutting a small “x” in the shell. It sounded like gun fire going off in my oven. And the clean up took hours.

I’ve learned this from disappointment ….. It comes and goes. Disappointment doesn’t have to rule me.

What I hope my children can learn from disappointment ….. That it is p[art of life and can be overcome with Jesus. That it doesn’t have to determine who they are and that it is transient, not permanent.

Disappointment with people ….. is the kind that hurts, but its an opportunity to forgive like Jesus forgives and remember the grace I’ve been given.

The Bible speaks about disappointment a lot. Here are some verses that give us comfort and strength in the face of disappointment. Choose one and tell how that verse can help you overcome disappointment……

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality. Colossians 3:23-25

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:13-14

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Philippians 4:6-7

This week’s Homekeeper’s Journal is about Spring Cleaning of a different sort….

In my kitchen this week …..

In my home this week …..

Read these verses

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22

These verses tell me ……

Now read these verses

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

These verses tell me ………

I will start Spring Cleaning my Heart this week by ……

This week’s Homekeeper’s Journal is about Homemaking and …..Unity

In my kitchen this week … I’m trying to get out of the winter time habit of cooking stews and heavy dishes. Last night I made Sesame Chicken. Tonight, I think I will make some light chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles. I can hardly wait for the fresh vegetables from this year’s garden. We have broccoli, lettuce, onions and spinach already coming up!

In my household plans this week …. the main thing is to keep up with the decluttering so I can really get serious with Spring Cleaning in a few weeks.

My off-the-cuff definition of Unity is …. hmmm., when things and people don’t get along. I was going to say when everyone doesn’t agree, but I think you can have unity even when you don’t agree on every little thing in life.

The opposite of Unity … Disunity? Discord? Hmmm… maybe Division is the best word. When things aren’t unified they are divided.

Unity in my home ….. means that we are all loving each other and getting along even though we may have very different ideas. I see unity in my children when they agree on a game or movie, and I see unity when they work together to get some big job done around the house. I see disunity when everyone is thinking only of their selves and when the little issues become huge. Its a very unpleasant place when there is disunity.

Unity in my Church … I could say a lot of the same things about unity in my Church as I said about unity in my home. I don’t personally believe that a Church must be made up of people who believe the very same thing on every issue, big and small. There are essentials of the faith and there are inessentials. Unity happens when a group of very different people have community, use their God-given gifts and work together toward the Kingdom of God in peace and love.

Between a husband and wife, Unity …. is essential and can I dare say it, rarely seen? I don’t see a whole lot of unity today between husbands and wives. I think there are a lot of reasons for that.
I know that in my marriage its been difficult sometimes to achieve unity. It takes hard work. It takes a laying down of many personal preferences and picking up of the preferences of my husband. And it takes him doing the same thing. Unity happens in a marriage when both parties are fulfilling their ‘job’, their function in the relationship.

Unity is precious. God lives in unity and wants us to live that way too. Here are some scriptures about unity: 1 Cor. 1:10-13, John 17:11, 20-23, Eph. 4:1-3, Eph. 4:11-13.

This week’s Homekeeper’s Journal is about This And That!

In My Kitchen this week……….. is a sweet-tart rhubarb crisp, bread and whole wheat flat bread, lots of beans, salmon and a few fresh herbs.

In My Yard …….. the herbs and little plants are peeping up. We set out broccoli, put out lettuce and spinach seed and set onions. We seeded the yard too and put out straw so its looking ragged.

I’ve been thinking ….about the times we live in, the fears people have, the answers that are to be found in Christ and praying that I can live out my faith in the coming days and years. People, even some Christians, are afraid and apprehensive about what is happening in Japan and all over the world. I have been thinking about the missionaries in Japan and what a wide open field they could have now to minister and share the Good News.

What motivates me more than anything else is ….. company coming! Oh my! The thought of it even starts to motivate me. I haven’t been hugely motivated for a long time, I really have to find thing that motivate me to help me get things done. Company coming is one big one, another motivation is the thought of needing to do things for my family.

My Devotional life and walk with Christ …. has been really fulfilling and precious lately. I am studying Romans at home and at Church we are studying God’s Plan for mankind beginning in Genesis.

I struggle ….. with not feeling well and growing older. And I struggle with relating to people as they change and grow older.

I dread …. having to get out and drive around every day.

But I look forward …. to being with family and friends, being at Church, holidays and Bible studies with a group and Saturdays!
