Harvest Homekeeping Begins Today!

Its time for Harvest Homekeeping here at CHK! I am so glad because not only do I learn a lot of new things, I get to share those things with you!

For the next couple of weeks I will offer you some instructions and ideas for cleaning and something I call, “Tidy Idies“, which are just good ideas for your home and family.  Stick around because I will also give you some tried and true Fall Recipes and some ideas for decorating your home in the coming days.

So today let’s start with cleaning and decluttering the bathroom. In some households with young children the bathroom is the hardest room to get clean and keep clean because the family is constantly in and out of that room.

There is a basic order to cleaning a bathroom. You can find out how to go about deep cleaning here in the Cleaning The Bathroom post. Feel free to print out the Bathroom Cleaning Instructions.

If your bathroom doesn’t need a deep cleaning, use the Bathroom Cleaning System below for a moderate clean.

Here are some Tidy Idies for keeping the bathroom cleaner, longer.

*Keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol in the cabinet. Every day after your shower, pour a little alcohol on a paper towel or tissue and wipe down the faucets, mirror and sink. They will be clean, disinfected and very shiny.

*Make it a household rule that after everyone showers, they either must hang up their towel or take it to the laundry room.

*Assign bathroom duty to one family member every week. Before bed each evening the bathroom duty person must see to it that every towel is picked up, trash picked up and everything is generally tidy.

*Make it a household rule that the tub must be rinsed out and drain cleaned after every bath or shower.

*Keep a spray bottle of vinegar and water (1:1 ratio) in the shower. Have everyone spray the shower walls, tub and shower curtain after each use to cut down on mold and mildew growth as well as keep soap scum from forming.

*Make it a habit to generally clean and straighten the bathroom after every shower or bath.

Today’s Big Tidy Idie: Room Cleaning Systems

Once you have your bathroom cleaned, consider creating a Room Cleaning System for the Bathroom. Room Cleaning Systems are a great help if you have children who are old enough to help clean but can’t remember everything to do in a room to clean it well. It can be a help to you to, to teach yourself a method or routine of cleaning in a room. Decide how you want your room to be cleaned and then type or write it up and tape it inside the bathroom or linen closet for reference.

Here is a sample Room Cleaning System for a Bathroom.
