A Late October Evening At Home

We spend a lot of nights in the Fall outside around a fire, cooking, talking, laughing. I love these days.  The children still at home are growing up so fast that it won’t be long until its just me and Mark out there by the fire. That has a certain appeal, too.

Our yard is protected by big trees and at night its very dark, even though there are a few street lights and lights of houses nearby.  So we sit and enjoy each others company and then enjoy the sounds of the crickets, coyotes and other night sounds.

Its not expensive to spend some time outside around a campfire with your family. In fact, you don’t even have to cook anything. Sometimes we just sit and talk or play with the dogs.

Being around the fire at night seems to slow us down, helps us focus on one another. It provides quiet, no distractions except those which we can share.

Can you institute a night outside where you live?  If you can, I encourage you to start tonight.

Lydia and I had on flip flops, and yes, my toes were cold.

Emma is our Blue Heeler. She likes marshmallows.  Maybe a little too much.

The same night you posted on FB that you all were outside roasting marshmallow’s we were too! We enjoy building a fire and sitting outside in the quiet. You’re right about it slowing us down. We just sit and enjoy each other and our surroundings. So peaceful.

I really wish we had the space in the backyard to do this, but living in a townhome makes it difficult to do outside entertaining. Plus, our deck isn’t in the best shape. We do have the colder weather though!

Jen we haven’t always had room for it either. But there are ways to get around it…… we used to fire up the grill and roast marshmallows over it! And in the middle of winter, we roast marshmallows over the inside stove and have hot chocolate in the living room while we watch a favorite movie or play a board game. Its all about doing whatever you can do – together. :) I know you know that! Have fun making memories.

  3. We love doing that sort of thing too but we’re just waiting for the cooler weather to come in. It looks like we might be getting some in the next day or two. Yay! Right now the mosquitoes are tearing us up. We need a good cold snap to kill them off, then we’re good to go!
